On Sunday, Daventry Brass supported and competed in the Leicestershire Open Brass Band Contest. The contest has been a regular fixture for us for a number of years now, and due to its own choice format, provides a great opportunity for bands to pick music they enjoy, and for the listener to enjoy a wide variety of performances from a range of repertoires. We chose a piece entitled “Northern Landscapes” by Peter Graham, a piece we achieved 1st Place at the Areas and a trip to the Finals with in 2003. This year, our hard work was rewarded with two fantastic results; out of 8 bands we were placed 3rd and to top this off, Hannah won the Best Instrumentalist prize! You can’t leave us now Hannah, you’ll have to defend your title!
A fantastic day and thanks go to Nigel for his hard work and dedication to get the best out the band and of course to the band who’ve all practiced hard.
With the contest now over, the band will turn its attention to the upcoming British Legion Concert on 12th December 2009 and the other Christmas commitments following on from it.
